Fillers & Facial Injections

When can fillers be used and can they be dissolved? It is very important to distinguish between permanent and non-permanent fillers. The most common non-permanent fillers you see are the Juvederm and Restylane type of fillers. These fillers are very easily dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase. So if some reason there is some problem with the filler, like some nodule or irregularity, it is very easy to go back to your doctor and have some hyaluronidase injected. The reason why we enjoy using non-permanent fillers is exactly because of this reason. You are able to put in what you want and if you feel that there is too much injected somewhere, it is very easy to get rid of.

This is very different from some types of permanent fillers that we do not like and do not really use here in Beverly Hill Profiles. Fillers such as Artefill that have been FDA approved for certain usages can be real problems. In our opinion, anything that is permanent like that can develop issues. Especially since the studies to show the impact they can have 20-25 years down the line are not available. Drs. Litner and Solieman avoid using permanent fillers not necessarily because there is anything wrong with them but because they are difficult to get out if there is a problem. The chances of an issue occurring is very rare. If an issue does occur, you can get a nodule inflammatory reaction which usually requires surgery.

Another filler is Voluma, a recently approved, longer acting filler in the Juvederm family but will last for around 2 years. The tradeoff for lasting longer is that Voluma is a little more difficult to remove if necessary. You should just be aware of what’s available and what’s possible and have a talk with your doctor about getting fillers done right.
