Age Spots and brown spots for many people are an even earlier sign of aging and sun damage, than wrinkles and coarse skin. What’s more, here in beautiful Los Angeles those who grew up sun bathing often find they are now paying the price by looking older than they really are due to those long days spent at the beach earlier in life.

1. Age spots and uneven pigmentation
Age spots, also known as liver spots or sun spots, form when the body increases its melanin production in response to sun exposure. Melanin then clumps together to form brown, black or grey spots on the skin, causing uneven skin tone in sun-exposed areas.
2. Texture changes
Thick, leathery skin is a telltale sign that someone has spent too much time in the sun. The classic Western cowboy with his tanned and leathery skin is the perfect example of how constant sun exposure can transform the skin.
3. Wrinkles and fine lines
Overexposure to the sun depletes your skin of collagen, elastin, and natural oils, which give the skin a youthful firmness and elasticity. As collagen and elastin break down, wrinkles appear and the skin begins to sag. The depletion of natural oils contributes to skin dryness, which accelerates the wrinkling process.
4. Broken capillaries
Repeated exposure to UV radiation can also cause the walls of tiny blood vessels (capillaries) to break down, causing red lines to appear on the skin. When several capillaries break down in the same area, such as around the nose or chin, the skin may appear reddened or flushed.
Ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun accelerates the skin aging process. One of the best ways to preserve a youthful appearance is to minimize your exposure to the sun – easier said than done in sunny Los Angeles! Unfortunately by the time we start to notice signs of sun damage on our skin, we have already had too much UV radiation. Prevention is the best policy, but it can’t reverse signs of damage that already exist. For this, the PROFILES Beverly Hills approach offers the best approach for reversing sun damage.
