Stretch marks are a common skin condition that affects almost everyone. Stretch marks are not medically dangerous, but their appearance is bothersome to many people. While there’s nothing that can be done to prevent the formation of stretch marks, our patented laser can be used to minimize the appearance of stretch marks anywhere on the body.
Stretch marks do not compromise the skin’s overall integrity or pose a health risk, but many people consider them a cosmetic nuisance. Countless of women have expressed how they would love to wear a bikini but stopped doing so after pregnancy left them with stretch marks around the belly.
While no treatment is perfect, our patented fractal laser is used to pulse light through the skin, which causes the stretch mark scar tissue to breakdown and stimulates the production of new collagen. The result is a reduction in the the appearance of stretch marks that gives the skin a smoother texture. Stretch marks form in the dermis, the middle layer of the skin. During periods of normal growth, the dermis is able to stretch as the body grows. Stretch marks form when the skin stretches too quickly due to sudden weight gain or growth, causing the dermis to tear. This allows the deeper layers of skin to show through the tears, causing the appearance of dark red or purple stretch marks on the skin. Stretch marks tend to appear in horizontal lines and may cause a mild itching or burning sensation as they form. The areas of the body where stretch marks commonly develop include the abdomen, hips, lower back, thighs, breasts, and upper arms.
Stretch marks seem to appear when there is an increase in cortisone levels in the body. This is likely because higher cortisone levels reduce the skin’s ability to stretch. The following are examples of times when stretch marks are most likely to form:
Over time, the blood vessels in the area contract and the stretch marks change to a silvery-white color. In some cases, the stretch marks are barely visible after a few years. When stretch marks are large or cover a significant portion of the body, their appearance may still be quite noticeable after several years. Unfortunately, stretch marks will never completely disappear without treatment.
